The 2023 TAM Roadeo took place on Saturday, April 15 at the Dorsey MARC Station in Elkridge, MD. 28 drivers from 12 different local transit providers participated:

  • Allegany County Transit
  • Baltimore County CountyRide
  • Cecil Transit
  • Delmarva Community Transit
  • Garrett Transit Service
  • Harford Transit LINK
  • Montgomery County RideOn
  • Queen Anne's County - County Ride
  • RTA of Central Maryland
  • Sheppard Pratt Health System
  • St. Mary's Nursing Center
  • St. Mary's Transit System

70 volunteers from 27 different TAM member organizations judged the event. Critical equipment for the Roadeo was provided by RTA of Central Maryland, Harford Transit LINK, Baltimore County CountyRide, MDOT MTA, and EasterSeals. Thankfully, the rain held off and the weather was perfect for most of the morning! After the conclusion of the competition, drivers and volunteers attended our Awards banquet, held at the nearby Olive Grove Restaurant in Linthicum. Customer Service Training by Lynn Berger was held, along with a buffet lunch and a show by master magician Eric Henning. Our recognized champions for 2023 were:

  1. Matt Paugh: 1st Place, Garrett Transit Service 
  2. James Kisner: 2nd Place, Garrett Transit Service
  3. Michelle Joyner 3rd Place, RTA of Central Maryland

Each champion will be given a scholarship to compete at the National CTAA Roadeo in Oklahoma City, OK on May 20-21. 

Also recognized at this event were awards for Fastest Time (winner, Matt Paugh), Highest Score on Wheelchair Securement (winner, Gary Watson, Baltimore County CountyRide), and Rookie Of the Year for the most outstanding first year competitor (Fred Metzner, Allegany County Transit).

This marks the fourth time Matt Paugh has won this event, his previous wins coming in 2017, 2019, 2022, and 2023. He was also TAM's Driver of the Year winner in 2017. James Kisner is also a three-time Roadeo Champion. This marks Michelle Joyner's first time on the winner's podium.
