Associate Director of Operations - (220000JF)

Job Summary

The Associate Director of Transportation Services performs the administrative and managerial functions necessary to plan, implement and monitor operations to ensure compliance with and support of the policies, mission, and strategic plans of the University.  This position will provide leadership, expertise, and long-range planning for the Transportation program.  The Associate Director will be responsible for ensuring the safe and compliant operation of the shuttle and post office operations. 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Ensures programs are operating in compliance with Federal, state, local, USM and University policies about: CDL regulations, fleet & equipment maintenance (preventative and corrective), system configurations and training. 
    • Responsible for oversight and management of day-to-day operations of the shuttle and post office operations. 
    • Responsible for serving as the department liaison to customers, administrators, and stakeholders. 
    • Serves as liaison between operations, IT support and maintenance regarding departmental technology applications and how systems can best support the operational needs of the programs.
    • Responsible for long-range planning to include route and schedule planning, postal systems and programs, collaboration with state and local stakeholders, staffing approaches, sustainability programs, etc.
    • Develops strategic plans and recommendations for consideration by the Director and campus administration. 
    • Responsible for gathering and presenting statistics and operational recommendations.
    • Work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders both internally and externally.
    • Assume the responsibility for all department sections in the absence of the Director.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A bachelor's degree.
  • Have a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience, preferably in the transit industry, to include: operations, maintenance, and compliance.
  • Have experience working with industry specific software and hardware systems.
  • Have experience developing and implementing programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Preferred candidate will have....
    • Experience in higher education transit programs.
    • Experience planning and implementing long range plans.
    • Experience presenting information both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to obtain a class B CDL license with passenger endorsement and no air brake restrictions, within 6 months of hire.
